Well, the first action of any builders day will be tea, and lots of it! And maybe a
biscuit or three 😉 But when it comes to renovating your home, your builder and their tradespeople should be on site every day of your project, right? Not necessarily ! It’s a
simple misunderstanding but it’s something we hear often…. there will be some
days when no one will be on your site.
But why?
There are a few reasons for this which I will explain. Firstly, many builders work
on more than one job at a time to manage cash flow, so it’s necessary for most
builders to be working on a number of mid-sized renovations at a time. This
also ensures we have enough work for our sub- contractors throughout the
year. This may sound like you are not getting enough attention to your job but I can assure you that you will be receiving everything you need because we always work with our clients to create a schedule that is right for you!
While we’re on the topic of contractors and trades, we come to our second
reason for this blog post! Most contractors juggle a multitude of jobs – often not
just for the one builder. Sometimes their schedule will not line up with what’s
next at your project and we will have to wait until they are available. For example, a carpenter may only be required on your building site for a total of 5 days of the building period, but these will likely be spread out. If our carpenters schedule doesn’t line up with your project, there may be times when no one is on site. This is because we only work with the very best contractors and a lot of the time there is a wait, but it is a wait worth waiting for. To get the job done at the highest standard we can provide we only use contractors we know and trust to work to that standard.
Whilst all this sounds like a lot of delays, this is very normal and is generally industry typical. Complications in groundwork can also delay a project therefore its a domino effect on the other trades to shift dates around, however, your project will be completed by Simply Build and Plaster to a very high quality standard and although we may need to shuffle dates around, we will keep you informed all the way.
Another thing to remember is that some building work will require rooms or areas to be cleared of furniture before we arrive, but any mess we make, we will clear up! We will never leave you with a messy room or renovation after we have completed your job.
